My Love Affair With Turquoise.

I think one of my favourite stones has always been turquoise, whether it is the real deal, African "turquoise" or turquoise dyed howelite there is something about the colour, veining and texture that  always calls to me.  It is almost a neutral in that you can pair it with almost any colour and it will look great.  It looks especially spectacular paired with silver which is my favourite metal.

Last week I had a lunch date down town with a friend and headed to my favourite treasure hunt bead store: Lenus Beads.  They always have rows of un-named semi precious stones that even if they don't have a pedigree I still love and they always seem to inspire. This time I was smitten with these turquoise stones, they are either African turquoise or dyed howelite but either way they sang to me. I sat down right away and made three pieces........

First I paired this gorgeous stone with prehnite, amazonite, labradorite and pyrite in this statement crocheted wirw necklace.  $35

 Then I combined it with large silver plated jump rings in this bold stretch bracelet $30

I loved the look of the bracelet so much I made this beautiful necklace with the same stones and jump rings adding a sparkly silver plated chain. $32

I still have some turquoise left...who knows what it will become!

Just to round things out a bit I pulled out some glass pearls in the colour of the year and created this crocheted necklace....

A Productive Day

I have been struggling with the first cold that I have had in 2 years so I decided since I am taking it easy and recuperating I would try to be as productive as possible.  This is what happened......

Under the Sea

 These cute pieces are made from tiny stone turtles that I fell in love with, mixed with teal and pink glass, sea blue recycled glass and fresh water pearls all crocheted on non tarnish silver wire. It reminds me of the flotsam in a fisherman's net. SOLD

Coral Reef

Beautiful dyed coral both in cubes and organic branch shapes mixed with Czech glass tear drops.

The Kumihimo Blues

I just love sodalite with it's warm blues highlighted by blacks and whites.  It is so beautiful it doesn't need anything else to shine. SOLD  

Blue Lotus

This is a  pretty necklace with an oriental flare.  Chinese ceramic beads are highlighted with periwinkle recycled glass beads, sodalite and silver lotus bead caps.

Denim Dreams

This piece would be as comfortable with your denim jeans as it would with your finest duds. Denim blue sponge coral with amber glass beads.

And then I pulled out some beads I have had for a while and played until I was happy...

It started with mother of pearl, pearl and crystal bracelet and the next thing I knew there were 3 bracelets in the same theme...same pattern different beads SOLD. 

That lead to a necklace because I liked the colour combination so much....of course that lead to matching earrings! SOLD

Pearls

I love pearls....glass pearls, fresh water pearls, perfect pearls.  I love the lustre.  It can be both refined and casual...wear with a ball gown or your favourite white shirt and jeans.  
When I pulled out my bag of pearls they just called out to me to spend the day crocheting them into beautiful necklaces....
